His saying, exalted and glorified is He: "Indeed, the righteous are in bliss, and indeed, the wicked are in Hell. They will burn therein on the Day of Judgment, and they will not be absent from it. And what can make you know what the Day of Judgment is? Then what can make you know what the Day of Judgment is? A Day when no soul will possess for another soul anything, and the command that Day is for Allah."

"The righteous" is the plural of "righteous one," which refers to one whose righteousness is established generally. He has been righteous to his Lord in obeying Him, and he has been righteous to his parents, and he has been righteous to people by removing harm from them, and bringing them good as much as he can. He has also been righteous to animals and others in that he does not corrupt anything from them without a permissible benefit. And "the wicked" refers to the disbelievers. And "they will burn therein" means: they will experience its heat with their bodies. "And the Day of Judgment" is the Day of recompense.

And His saying, exalted and glorified is He: "And they will not be absent from it," some of the interpreters said: This is an emphasis in the report that they will burn therein, and that they will not be able to be absent from it that Day. Others said: The meaning is: they will not be absent from it in the Barzakh, as if He, exalted and glorified is He, after informing about their burning therein on the Day of Judgment, informed thereafter about the duration before the Day of Judgment. This is because they see their places in the Fire morning and evening, so they are witnessing it. Then He, exalted and glorified is He, magnified the severity of the Day of Judgment by His saying: "And what can make you know," "Then what can make you know."

Ibn Kathir, Abu Amr, Ibn Abi Ishaq, Isa, and Ibn Jundub read "Day" with the raising of the meem, meaning: it is a Day. The rest read, and Al-Hasan, Abu Ja'far, Shaiba, and Al-A'raj read "Day" with the lowering, meaning: the recompense is a Day, so it is a circumstance in the meaning of the news of the beginning.

Then He, exalted and glorified is He, informed of the weakness of people that Day, and that some will not avail others, and that the command belongs to Him, blessed and exalted is He. Qatadah said: Thus it is that Day, and Allah, exalted and glorified is He, there will be no one disputing with Him, nor will He allow anyone anything as He allowed them in the world.
