Biography

ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq ibn Ghālib Ibn ʿAṭiyyah al-Andalusī (1088-1147 CE) was a distinguished Andalusian scholar, jurist, and judge. His tafsir, 'al-Muḥarrar al-Wajīz fī Tafsīr al-Kitāb al-ʿAzīz' (The Concise and Precise Exegesis of the Noble Book), is celebrated for its scholarly rigor, linguistic depth, and balanced approach to interpretation.

Tafsir Methodology

Ibn Atiyyah combines linguistic analysis, theological discussion, and jurisprudential reasoning with a critical eye for narration authenticity. He evaluates and weighs different scholarly opinions, often selecting the strongest view. His tafsir is known for its precision and was highly praised by Ibn Khaldun, who considered it superior to Al-Zamakhshari's work in many respects.
