Commentary
'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' His saying - exalted and mighty is He -: ﴿And if a group of you has believed in that which I have been sent with, and a group has not believed, then be patient until Allah judges between us, and He is the best of judges﴾ The meaning: "And if you, O people, have differed with me; and you have divided my matter with your disbelief; then a group has believed; and a group has disbelieved; so be patient, O disbelievers, until the judgment of Allah, the Exalted, comes between me and you." And in His saying, ﴿'So be patient'﴾ there is a strong threat and warning; this is the apparent meaning; and that the address of the entire verse is to the disbelievers. And Munthir ibn Sa'id reported from Ibn Abbas - may Allah be pleased with both of them - that the address in His saying: "So be patient" is to the believers; in the sense of a promise to them; and this was said by Muqatil ibn Hayyan; and al-Naqqash said: And Muqatil ibn Sulayman said: the meaning is: "So be patient, O assembly of disbelievers." Al-Qadi Abu Muhammad - may Allah have mercy on him - said: And this is the saying of the majority.
