Commentary
'And We inspired to Musa when his people asked him for water, 'Strike with your staff the stone.' And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. And We shaded them with clouds and sent down upon them manna and quails. 'Eat from the good things We have provided for you.' And they did not wrong Us, but they used to wrong themselves.' It has already been mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah the matter of the stone and the asking for water, and where it was, and the matter of the shading and the sending down of manna and quails. We have mentioned that in a way that suffices for repeating it here. And 'And there gushed forth' means 'it burst forth,' except that gushing forth is lighter than bursting. Al-Amash and Isa Al-Hamdani read, 'Eat from the good things We have provided for you' with the singular pronoun.
