'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' His saying - glorified and exalted is He -: ﴿And your Lord is the Self-Sufficient, the Lord of Mercy. If He wills, He can remove you and replace you with whatever He wills, just as He brought you forth from the descendants of another people.﴾ ﴿Indeed, what you are promised is coming, and you are not causing failure.﴾ ﴿Say, O my people, work according to your position; indeed, I am working. So you will know who will have the outcome of the home. Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.﴾ 'The Self-Sufficient' is a description of the essence of Allah - glorified and exalted is He - because He - blessed and exalted is He - does not depend on anything from any direction; then this attribute is followed by His saying - glorified and exalted is He - 'the Lord of Mercy'; thus, He combined self-sufficiency with generosity; and this is the most beautiful harmony; then He followed with these words that include a warning; warning of the might of Allah - glorified and exalted is He - in hastening that; or with a delay; and the passing of the two new moons; and such is the custom of Allah - glorified and exalted is He - in creation; as for the succession, it is as Allah - glorified and exalted is He - created this human world by originating it from the descendants of a previous people; their origin is Adam - peace be upon him. And the congregation read: 'descendants' with a Dhamma on the dhāl and a shaddah on the broken rā'; and Zayd ibn Thabit read it with a kasrah on the dhāl; and likewise in Surah 'Aal 'Imran'; and Abu Hatim narrated from Aban ibn 'Uthman that he read: 'descendants' with a fatḥah on the dhāl and a light broken rā'; and Abu al-Zinad narrated from him that he read on the minbar: 'descendants' with a fatḥah on the dhāl and a sukoon on the rā'; in the form of 'fa'lah'; he said: I asked him, and he said: Zayd ibn Thabit taught it to me. And 'from' in His saying - glorified and exalted is He - 'from the descendants' is for partitive; and al-Tabari went to say that it is in the meaning of your saying: 'I took a dinar from my garment'; meaning: 'from it; and its equivalent'; and 'you are promised' is derived from 'the warning'; with the evidence: ﴿And you are not causing failure.﴾ and the reference here is to this previous warning specifically; as for whether the generality is absolute, that would imply the enforcement of the warning; and the beliefs refute that; and 'causing failure' means: 'escaping successfully'; meaning: 'they cannot escape from their pursuer.' Then Allah - glorified and exalted is He - commanded His Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him - to warn them by saying: 'Work'; meaning: 'you will see the outcome of your corrupt deeds'; and the form 'do' here means warning and threatening; and ﴿according to your position﴾ means: according to your state; and your way; and Abu Bakr - may Allah be pleased with him - read from 'Asim': 'according to your positions' in the plural of position; in all of the Qur'an; and all read in the singular in all of the Qur'an; and 'who' is directed to mean 'the one who'; so it would be in the position of accusative with 'you will know'; and it is directed to be an interrogative in the position of nominative with the beginning; and the news in His saying - glorified and exalted is He - 'will have' and ﴿the outcome of the home﴾ means: the end of the Hereafter; and it is possible that it refers to the end of this world; with victory; and triumph; so in the verse is an announcement of the unseen. Then the judgment is declared that: ﴿the wrongdoers will not succeed.﴾ meaning: their striving will not succeed; and Hamzah and al-Kisai read: 'who will be' with a yā here; and in 'al-Qasas' on the mention of the meaning of the outcome.
