وَذَٰلِكُمۡ ظَنُّكُمُ ٱلَّذِي ظَنَنتُم بِرَبِّكُمۡ أَرۡدَىٰكُمۡ فَأَصۡبَحۡتُم مِّنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ ٢٣ ﴿23 فَإِن يَصۡبِرُواْ فَٱلنَّارُ مَثۡوٗى لَّهُمۡۖ وَإِن يَسۡتَعۡتِبُواْ فَمَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُعۡتَبِينَ ٢٤ ﴿24 ۞ وَقَيَّضۡنَا لَهُمۡ قُرَنَآءَ فَزَيَّنُواْ لَهُم مَّا بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ وَحَقَّ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ فِيٓ أُمَمٖ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ خَٰسِرِينَ ٢٥ ﴿25 وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَا تَسۡمَعُواْ لِهَٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ وَٱلۡغَوۡاْ فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَغۡلِبُونَ ٢٦ ﴿26
23This thought of yours that you conceived about your Lord brought you to ruin, and you became among the losers. 24Now, if they endure patiently, even then the Fire is their abode, and if they seek forgiveness, they are not among those (who could be) forgiven. 25And We had assigned for them fellows (in the worldly life) who beautified for them what was before them and what was behind them. And (thus) the word (of punishment) became due against them along with the communities that passed before them from Jinns and human beings. His saying, exalted and majestic is He: "And that is your assumption which you assumed about your Lord; it has destroyed you, so you have become among the losers." And His saying, glorified and exalted is He: ﴿So they adorned for them what was before them﴾, means: They taught them and established in their souls evil beliefs regarding the matters that preceded them: concerning the messengers, blessings and peace be upon them, and the prophethood, and praising the worship of idols, and following the actions of their forefathers, and other than that of which it is said: "It is before them," and all that preceded them in time and whose effect or news reached them. Likewise, they gave them evil beliefs regarding what is behind them, which is everything that comes after them from the resurrection, and the raising, and similar matters of which it is said: "It is behind the human," so they adorned for them in these two everything that would lead them to destruction and would bring them to the punishment of Hellfire.

And His saying, the Exalted, ﴿And the saying was justified against them﴾ means: The prior decree of fate and the command of Allah to punish them among a group of punished nations, disbelievers from the jinn and humans. And a group said: [In] means: "With."

And it was narrated from Isa and Ibn Abi Ishaq - with a difference from them - and they are two languages. It is said: lagha yalghu, and it is said: laghiya yalghi, and it is also said: lagha yalgha. Its origin is yaf'il - with the kasra of the 'ain - so the letter of the throat returned it to the opening. Thus, the first reading is from yalghu, and the second reading is from yalgha, as said by Al-Akhfash.
