'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' His saying, exalted and glorified is He: "And O my people, why do I invite you to salvation while you invite me to the Fire? You invite me to disbelieve in Allah and to associate with Him that of which I have no knowledge, and I invite you to the Mighty, the Forgiving. Certainly what you invite me to has no call in this world or in the Hereafter, and that our return is to Allah, and that the transgressors are the companions of the Fire." (p-445) "So you will remember what I say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allah. Indeed, Allah is All-Seer of the servants." "So Allah protected him from the evils of what they plotted, and there befell the people of Pharaoh the evil punishment." There has already been mention of the disagreement: is this statement of Musa, peace be upon him, or of the believer from the family of Pharaoh? The call to obey Allah, to worship Him, and to affirm His Oneness is the call to the cause of salvation. Thus, he made it a call to salvation in brevity. Likewise, their call to him to disbelief and to follow their religion is a call to the cause of entering the Fire, so he made it a call to the Fire in brevity. Then he clarified to them the difference between the two calls, in that one is disbelief and association, while the other is a call to reliance on the might of Allah and His forgiveness. And his saying: "of which I have no knowledge" does not mean that I am ignorant of it, but rather it means the knowledge that the idols and Pharaoh and others have no entrance in divinity. And no one among mankind has knowledge in any aspect of consideration that they have an entrance in divinity. Rather, the certain knowledge is that they are not among those who have any entrance. And "certainly" is the position of Sibawayh and Al-Khalil that it is the negating 'no' that has entered upon 'certainly'. Its meaning is: it has been established and it is necessary. From this is 'to earn', and from it is the saying of the poet: 'And indeed you have stabbed Abu Uyaynah with a stab that has made it necessary for the Banu Fazarah after it to be angry.' This means it has made that necessary for them and has established it for them. So it is as if the speech is a negation of the speech that is rejected by 'no', and an affirmation of what is initiated by 'certainly'. And [that] - according to this view - is in the position of raising by [certainly]. (p-446) And likewise, [that] the second and third, and the position of a group from the people of language is that 'certainly' means 'must' and 'no doubt'. So 'that' - according to this view - is in the position of lowering by dropping the preposition, meaning: there is no doubt that what, and [what] means 'that which' is applicable to the idols and what they worship besides Allah, blessed and exalted is He. And his saying: "has no call in this world" means a degree and a right that one must be called to. It is as if he said: you invite me to that which has no benefit while we have a great matter before us of returning to Allah, the Exalted. And the people of transgression and association are the companions of the Fire with permanence in it and association. That is: how can I obey you with these factual matters, and in obeying you is a rejection of acting according to them and fear of them? Ibn Mas'ud and Mujahid said: the transgressors are those who shed blood unlawfully. And Qatadah said: they are the polytheists.
Then he warned them that they will remember his saying when the punishment befalls them. And it will be with the letter 's' since the matter is possible for the warning to occur in this world or in the Hereafter. This is the interpretation of Ibn Zayd. And Al-Yazidi and others narrated from Abu Amr the opening of the 'ya' in [Amri]. The pronoun in: [Fawqahu] is possible to return to Musa, peace be upon him, or to the believer of the family of Pharaoh. Those who said this mentioned that this believer was saved with Musa, peace be upon him, and fled among those who fled with him, from the followers. And Asim read: 'Fawqahu' with the inclination.
And 'Haqa' means: descended, and it is used in the disliked. And the evil of the punishment is: drowning and what comes after it from the Fire and its torment.
