Tafsir for verses: 35:29, 35:30, 35:31
29Surely those who recite Allah’s Book and have established Salāh and have spent, secretly and openly, from what We have provided to them - they hope for a trade that will never crash, 30so that He pays them their rewards in full, and gives them more out of His grace. Surely He is Most-Forgiving, Very-Appreciative. 31The Book We have revealed to you is the Truth, confirming what was (revealed) before it. Surely Allah, in respect of His slaves, is All-Aware, All-Seeing.

Commentary

'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' He, exalted and glorified, says: "Indeed, those who recite the Book of Allah and establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them secretly and publicly are hoping for a trade that will never perish. To give them their rewards in full and to increase them from His bounty. Indeed, He is Forgiving and Appreciative." "And what We have revealed to you from the Book is the truth, confirming what is before it. Indeed, Allah is All-Aware and All-Seer of His servants." Mu'tarrif ibn Abdullah ibn al-Shikhir said: "This is the verse of the reciters." This is based on the fact that "recite" (yatlūna) means: they read. If we take it to mean: they follow, the meaning of the verse remains correct. It applies to the reciters and others who possess the attributes of the verse. The "Book of Allah" is the Qur'an, and the "establishment of prayer" means establishing it with all its conditions. The "spending" refers to charity and acts of goodness. The secret in that is voluntary giving, and the public is what is obligatory. The phrase "they hope" is a sentence in the nominative case, the news of "Indeed." The meaning of "will never perish" (tabūr) is: it will not decline and its profit will be difficult to attain. It is said: "We seek refuge with Allah from the decline of the widow." The "lam" in "to give them" (li-yuwafiyahum) is related to an implied action necessitated by the wording of the verse. Its estimation is: He promised them that it will not perish if they do all of that and obey Him, and similar estimations. His saying: "and to increase them" (wa-yazīdahum) a group said: it is the multiplication of good deeds from ten to seven hundred, and the fulfillment of rewards - according to this - is the recompense in return. Another group said: the multiplication is included in the fulfillment of rewards, but the increase from His bounty is either looking at His noble face or intercession for others, as He, blessed and exalted, said: "For those who have done good is the best and an increase." (Yunus: 26) And "Forgiving" means: overlooking sins and concealing them, and "Appreciative" means: rewarding for the little of obedience, drawing His servant closer by it. Then He, exalted and glorified, affirmed the matter of His Prophet by saying: "And what We have revealed to you" (wa-alladhī awhaynā ilayka) is the verse, and "confirming" (muṣaddiqan) is a confirming state. What is before the Qur'an is the Torah and the Gospel. His saying, exalted and glorified: "Indeed, Allah is All-Aware and All-Seer of His servants" is a warning.
