His saying, exalted and majestic is He: "O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness, a bringer of good tidings, and a warner, and a caller to Allah by His permission, and an illuminating lamp. And give good tidings to the believers that they will have from Allah a great bounty. And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and disregard their harm, and put your trust in Allah. And sufficient is Allah as a Disposer of affairs." "O you who have believed, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them, then there is not for you any period of waiting that you should count. So provide for them and set them free in a goodly manner." These verses contain reassurance for the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and for the believers, and honor for all of them. His saying: "as a witness" means: over your nation by conveying to them, and over the other nations in conveying their prophets, and so forth. And His saying: "a bringer of good tidings" means: for the believers of the mercy of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, and of Paradise. "And a warner" means: for the sinners and the deniers of the Fire and the punishment of eternity. Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "When this verse was revealed, the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, called Ali and Muadh, may Allah be pleased with them, and sent them to Yemen, and said: 'Go and give good tidings and do not drive people away, and make things easy and do not make things difficult, for it has been revealed to me:' and he recited the verse.'" And "the call to Allah" is the conveying of Tawhid and adherence to it, and the struggle against the disbelievers. And "by His permission" here means: by His command to you and His decree of that at its time and moment. And "an illuminating lamp" is a metaphor for the light that is contained in His legislation, so that the guided ones by it and the believers emerge from the darkness of disbelief. And His saying, exalted is He: "And give good tidings," the 'wa' is a conjunction linking one sentence to another, and the meaning is disconnected from that which preceded it. He commanded, exalted is He, that he should give good tidings to the believers of the great bounty from Allah. Al-Qadi Abu Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: My father, may Allah be pleased with him, said: This is the most hopeful verse for me in the Book of Allah, exalted and majestic is He, because Allah commanded His Prophet to give good tidings to the believers that they have a great bounty with Him. And Allah has clarified what the great bounty is in His saying: "And those who have believed and done righteous deeds will be in the gardens of Paradise; they will have whatever they wish with their Lord. That is the great bounty." [Ash-Shura: 22] So the verse in this Surah is a report, and the one in "Ha, Meem, 'Ain, Seen, Qaf" is an explanation of it.

And His saying, exalted is He: ﴿And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites﴾ is a prohibition for him from listening to them in matters they were seeking that are not obligatory, and in matters they were introducing as advice, which is deceit, to the meaning of this. And His saying: ﴿And leave their harm﴾ has two possible meanings: one of them is that He commands him to refrain from harming them and punishing them, so the meaning is: overlook their mistakes and do not harm them. The source - on this interpretation - is attributed to the object, and what is specific to the disbelievers has been abrogated from the verse - on this interpretation - and its abrogator is the verse of the sword. The second meaning is that His saying: ﴿And leave their harm﴾ means: turn away from their words and what they harm you with. The source - on this interpretation - is attributed to the subject, and this is the interpretation of Mujahid. Then He commanded him, exalted is He, to rely upon Him, and He comforted him with His saying: ﴿And sufficient is Allah as a Trustee﴾. So in the strength of the words, there is a promise of victory. The saying about

And this verse specifies two verses: one of them is "And the divorced women should wait for three menstrual periods" [Al-Baqarah: 228]. This verse specifies those who have not been intimate with them. Likewise, it specifies those who have three months, which are those who have ceased menstruating, and those who have not menstruated due to being young among the divorced women before the marriage. And "the beautiful release" is the divorce that is followed by good companionship and kind words without harm.
