Commentary

His saying, exalted and majestic is He: "And We saved him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds." "And We granted him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, and We made them all righteous." "And We made them leaders guiding by Our command, and We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, the establishment of prayer, and the giving of zakah, and they were worshippers of Us."

It has been narrated that when Ibrahim, peace be upon him, was taken out of the fire, Nimrod summoned him and spoke to him. Then Allah sealed him with disbelief, so he persisted and said to Ibrahim in some of his words: "O Ibrahim, where are the soldiers of your Lord that you claim?" Ibrahim replied: "He will show you the action of His weakest soldiers." So Allah sent upon Nimrod and his companions a swarm of mosquitoes that devoured them completely, and their animals, until the bones appeared white. A mosquito entered the head of Nimrod, and his head was struck with sticks and other things. The torment lasted a long time, and he perished from it. Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and his nephew Lot, peace be upon him, left that land as emigrants, which is Kutha in Iraq. With Ibrahim, peace be upon him, was his cousin's daughter, Sarah, his wife. During that journey, he encountered the tyrant who sought to take her from him.

People have differed regarding the land that was blessed in which Allah saved Ibrahim and Lot, peace be upon them. One group said it is Mecca, and they mentioned Allah's saying: "For indeed, it is in Bakkah a blessed place." [Al-Imran: 96] The majority said it is from the land of Sham, which is the land that Allah blessed. As for the Hereafter, it is in prophethood and faith, and as for this world, it is in the best of Allah's lands in terms of soil, the sweetest water, and the most abundant fruits and blessings. It is the well-known place of residence of Ibrahim and his descendants. It has been narrated that there is no sweet water on earth except that its source comes from beneath the rock of Bayt al-Maqdis.

Qadi Abu Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "This is weak. It is the land of the gathering, where people will be gathered, and where Isa ibn Maryam, peace be upon him, will descend, and there he will destroy the false messiah. It has been narrated from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, that he said one day in a sermon: 'Indeed, there were soldiers in Sham, soldiers in Iraq, and soldiers in Yemen.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, choose for me.' He said: 'You should be with Sham, for Allah has taken care of Sham and its people. Whoever remains should join his safety.'" Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said to Ka'b al-Ahbar: "Will you not move to Medina?" He replied: "O Commander of the Believers, I find in the Book of Allah revealed that Sham is the treasure of Allah from His earth, and there is His treasure from His servants." It has been narrated that Ibrahim and Lot, peace be upon them, emigrated from Kutha and passed through Egypt, and it was not on the road, but they deviated out of fear of being followed until they reached Sham. Ibrahim settled in the seven of the land of Palestine, which is the wilderness of Sham, and Lot settled in the area of the overturned cities.

'Isaac' is the son of Abraham, blessings be upon them. 'Jacob' is the son of Isaac, blessings be upon them. 'The nafl' means the gift, as you say: 'The imam has given me such and such.' The nafl of obedience is as if it is a gift from Allah, glorified and exalted is He, to His servants, for which He rewards them. A group said: The gifted one is Isaac, and 'the nafl' is Jacob, blessings be upon them. The first is clearer. 'They guide' means: they guide others. 'Establishment' is a source, and in this there is consideration.
