وَإِن كَانَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأَيۡكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ ٧٨ ﴿78 فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٖ مُّبِينٖ ٧٩ ﴿79 وَلَقَدۡ كَذَّبَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡحِجۡرِ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ٨٠ ﴿80 وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمۡ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَكَانُواْ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِينَ ٨١ ﴿81 وَكَانُواْ يَنۡحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ ٨٢ ﴿82 فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّيۡحَةُ مُصۡبِحِينَ ٨٣ ﴿83 فَمَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ ٨٤ ﴿84 وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَأٓتِيَةٞۖ فَٱصۡفَحِ ٱلصَّفۡحَ ٱلۡجَمِيلَ ٨٥ ﴿85 إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلۡخَلَّٰقُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٨٦ ﴿86
78And the people of Aikah were (also) transgressors. 79So, We punished them in retribution, and both of them are (situated) by a highway, clearly visible. 80And the people of Al-Hijr gave the lie to the messengers. 81We provided them with Our signs, yet they kept turning away from them. 82They used to hew out houses from the hills peacefully. 83Then, the Cry seized them by the morning. 84So, whatever they earned did not come to their help. 85We did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is in between them without a truthful purpose. So overlook their deeds, meaning: turn your neck away from them by ignoring them, and He emphasized the overlooking by describing it as beautiful, as the intention is that there should be no blame in it nor confrontation. And this verse necessitates reconciliation, and its abrogation is in the verse of the sword, as said by Qatadah.

Then he comforted him at the end of the verse by saying that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, creates whom He wills for whom He wills. And He knows, glorified and exalted is He, the reason for the wisdom in that, not these idols that you worship.
