Commentary
'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, says: "And if every soul that wronged had what is in the earth, it would surely offer it as a ransom. And they will conceal regret when they see the punishment, and it will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged." "Indeed, to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. Indeed, the promise of Allah is true, but most of them do not know." "He gives life and causes death, and to Him you will be returned." This is news for the disbelievers in the context of informing them that this promise is true. The word 'and they concealed' means: they hid, and at that time it is from secrecy. It can also mean: they revealed, and at that time it is from the expressions of the face. Al-Tabari said: The meaning is that the leaders of these disbelievers concealed regret from their lowly ones and their base people. Al-Qadi Abu Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Rather, it is general for all of them. The word 'Indeed' is an opening and a warning. Then it necessitates that all that is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah, blessed and exalted is He. Al-Tabari said: He says: So, on that day, this disbeliever has nothing to rely upon. Al-Qadi Abu Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: And the connection between the two verses is thus directed towards distance, and this is not from the eloquent objectives. And His saying: "But most of them do not know" is qualified by 'most' because some people believe, so they know the truth of the promise of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, and most of them do not know, so for that reason they lie. And His saying, the Exalted, "And He gives life" means: He gives life from the sperm, "and causes death" by the appointed time. Then He makes the return to Him in the gathering on the Day of Resurrection. In the strength of these verses, there is what calls for faith and responding to the call of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic. And it was read 'you will be returned' with a 't' by Al-A'raj, Abu Amr, and Asim, and Nafi', and the people. And Isa ibn Umar read 'they will be returned' with a 'y' from below, and there was a difference about Al-Hasan.
