Commentary
'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' Allah, the Exalted, says: "Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then He established Himself on the Throne. He manages the affair; there is no intercessor except after His permission. That is Allah, your Lord, so worship Him. Will you not remember?" "To Him is your return all together, a promise from Allah, true. Indeed, He begins creation, then He returns it, so that He may reward those who have believed and done righteous deeds with justice, and those who have disbelieved will have a drink of boiling water and a painful punishment for what they used to disbelieve." This is the beginning of a call to the worship of Allah, the Exalted, and a declaration of His attributes. The address is to all people. The phrase "created the heavens and the earth" is as has been established that Allah, the Exalted, created the earth, then He established Himself towards the heaven while it was smoke, so He created it, then He spread the earth after that. And His saying: "in six days" it has been said: these are from the days of the Hereafter. The majority have said - and this is the correct view - rather, they are from the days of this world. Al-Qadi Abu Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: And this is in estimation, because the sun and its course had not yet advanced at that time. The saying of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, regarding the creation of Allah's creations: "Indeed, Allah began on the first day like this, and on the second day like this" is only to estimate that time and to reflect back to it the experience from the time He began arranging the day and the night. It is well-known that Allah began creation on the first day, and it has occurred in some hadiths in the Book of Muslim, and in the proofs that the beginning occurred on Saturday. Some people have mentioned that the wisdom in Allah, blessed and exalted, creating these things in a limited extended period is in His ability to say 'Be' and it is, but rather it is to teach His servants patience and deliberation in matters. Al-Qadi Abu Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: And this is something whose reasoning cannot be reached. And likewise, it is the embryos in the wombs and the creation of fruits, and other than that. And Allah, the Exalted, has set a measure for everything, and He knows best the aspect of wisdom in that. And His saying, the Exalted: "Then He established Himself on the Throne" has been previously mentioned in the verse of Al-Mu’minun [23:1]. And His saying: "He manages the affair" it is correct that He means by "the affair" the generic name of affairs, and it is possible that He means the affair which is the source of 'commanding'. His management of it, there is no deity except Him, is indeed the execution because He has encompassed everything with knowledge. Mujahid said: "He manages the affair" means: He decrees it alone. And His saying, the Exalted: "There is no intercessor except after His permission" is a refutation against the Arabs in their belief that the idols intercede for them. And His saying: "That is" is a reference to Allah, blessed and exalted, meaning: this is He whose attributes are like this, so worship Him. Then He confirmed them with these verses and lessons, saying: "Will you not remember?" meaning: so that remembering becomes a cause for guidance. And the summary of the saying in His saying, glorified and exalted is He: "Then He established Himself on the Throne" is that He established Himself with His power and dominance, or it may be that "established" means He took control if the word is correct in the language. It has been said in the words of the poet: 'Indeed, Bishr has established himself over Iraq without a sword and without shedding blood.'
Indeed, it is a constructed house, or it may be that He performed an action on the Throne, which He called 'Istawa'. The full explanation of the saying has preceded.
And His saying, the Most High: "To Him is your return all together" is a verse indicating the resurrection from the graves. It is one of the matters that the intellect has permitted and the Shari'ah has confirmed its occurrence. And His saying: "all together" is a state of the pronoun in "your return", and "the promise of Allah" is an accusative on the source, and likewise His saying: "truly". Abu al-Fath said: "truly" is an adjective. The majority read: "Indeed, it is" with a kasrah on the alif for separation and resumption. Abu Ja'far ibn al-Qaqa' and al-A'mash and Sahl ibn Shu'ayb and Abdullah read: "that it is" with a fathah on the alif, and its position is accusative on the estimation of: I affirm that it is, and al-Farra' said: its position is nominative on the estimation of: it is right that it is.
The judge Abu Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: It is permissible for me that "that it is" is a substitute for His saying: "the promise of Allah". Abu al-Fath said: If you wish, you can estimate: because He begins creation, meaning: whoever is in His power this is, then he is free from breaking the promise. And if you wish, you can estimate: Allah has truly promised that it is, and the source which is "the promise" does not apply here because it has been described, thus that indicates its completion and cuts off its action. Ibn Abu 'Ablah read "truly" in the nominative, so it is a beginning and its news is "that it is". And His saying: "He begins creation" means the first creation, and the resurrection is the resurrection from the graves. Talhah read: "He initiates creation" with a dammah on the ya and a kasrah on the dal. And His saying: "so that He may reward" is a lam of purpose, and the meaning is that the resurrection is only for the reward to occur for the deeds. And His saying: "with justice" means with fairness in His mercy and the goodness of their reward. And His saying: "And those who disbelieved" is a beginning, and al-Hameem is the hot water, and it is a fa'il meaning maf'ul, and from it is al-Hamam and al-Hammah. And from it is the saying of al-Murraqish:
In every day there is a boiling pot and a prepared kettle and hot water.
And the hot water of the Fire - as mentioned about the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him - when the disbeliever brings it close to his mouth, the skin of his head falls off. And it is as Allah, glorified and exalted is He, described: "It scorches the faces" [Al-Kahf: 29].
