Commentary
His saying, exalted and majestic is He: "Say, O mankind, indeed the truth has come to you from your Lord. So whoever is guided is only guided for himself, and whoever goes astray only goes astray against it. And I am not a guardian over you." "And follow what is revealed to you, and be patient until Allah judges. And He is the best of judges."
This is an address to all disbelievers, continuing throughout time. "The truth" is the Qur'an and the legislation that Muhammad brought, blessings and peace be upon him. "So whoever is guided" means: he follows the truth and submits to it, for he is striving for himself because it necessitates for him the mercy of Allah and averts His punishment. "And whoever goes astray" means: he deviates from the path of truth and does not look with the eye of reality, and he disbelieves in Allah, exalted and majestic is He, so he is contrary to that. And His saying: "And I am not a guardian over you" means: I am not one to take you or compel you to believe, but I am merely a conveyer. And this verse is abrogated by fighting.
And His saying, exalted is He: "And follow what is revealed to you" means: follow what your legislation has prescribed for you, and what Allah has informed you of His support for you, and be patient with the hardships of the message and what befalls you in Allah from harm. And His saying: "until Allah judges" is a promise to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, that he will prevail over them - as has occurred - as necessitated by the strength of the wording. And this patience is abrogated by fighting. And this surah is Meccan, and this has been mentioned earlier in its beginning.
The interpretation of Surah Yunus has ended, with the help of Allah and His success, and all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
