Commentary
And when the speech became lengthy and the intention was to instill fear, it was replaced from "when" by his saying, making it known to man what he asked about: ﴿On that Day﴾ meaning when the earthquake he mentioned occurred (p-206) and what followed from it and what was established from it. Likewise, what was replaced from it by his saying: ﴿It will inform﴾ meaning the earth will speak with the language of the state by bringing forth what is in its belly of the dead, treasures, and others in a way that man will understand why it trembled and why it was brought forth. And that the warning of that was true. Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said: It will speak with the language of the statement.
﴿Its news﴾ meaning that which was shaken and brought forth what it brought forth for its sake. And everything that was done upon it is a testimony from it against the doers, so it will say: So-and-so did such and such - it will multiply until the criminal wishes that he would be driven to the Fire to be freed from the count of that which brings him disgrace. And it will testify for the believer regarding what he did until that makes him happy. Thus, every sound that reaches the caller to prayer will testify, whether it is moist or dry.
