And when man sees this, he is amazed by it and does not grasp its cause, for it is a great and terrible matter that dazzles his mind and overwhelms him. He expressed this by saying: "And man said." This refers to the type that is truthful in both little and much, due to his forgetfulness of what has been confirmed to him regarding resurrection, because of his familiarity with himself and his contemplation of his own condition, in a manner of astonishment and bewilderment. It may also be that the speaker is the disbeliever, as he says: "Who will resurrect us from our graves?" [Ya-Sin: 52] Then the believer responds to him: "This is what the Most Merciful promised, and the messengers spoke the truth." [Ya-Sin: 52] "What is it for the earth in this matter that it has not witnessed its like?"
