And when He honored him by describing his scriptures, which are the place of the written word with purity, He mentioned the reason for that and said: "In them" meaning those scriptures are "books" the plural of book, meaning sciences that are truly worthy of being written due to their purity. They are "valuable" meaning they are in the utmost correctness for their articulation of the truth in which there is no doubt. There is no polytheism in them nor deviation of any kind. So when this clear proof came to them, they dispersed. Their dispersal was because they had been united before this. The people of the Book believed in the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, due to what they had of the clear good tidings about him. The polytheists said: If a warner comes to us, we will surely be more guided than one of the nations. They said: We know the truth for its people and we do not reject it in any way. So when the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, came to them with what there was no doubt in, they divided; some of them believed and some of them disbelieved.

And Imam Abu Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr said: It is from the completeness of what preceded it because when he was commanded, blessings and peace be upon him, to read his Book, which clarified his path and established his proof, he followed that with the introduction of the night of its revelation and its honoring by honoring what was made permissible for it from what was revealed in it. He followed that with his introduction, blessings and peace be upon him, that this Book is what the Jews used to seek victory with against the polytheists of the Arabs and they honored its matter and the matter of what was brought by it. Until when that became witnessed by them, they were the first to disbelieve in it. So Allah, the Most High, said: "Those who disbelieved among the People of the Book and the polytheists were not to be separated until the clear proof came to them" [Al-Bayyina: 1] - up to His saying: "And that is the religion of the upright" [Al-Bayyina: 5]. In the introduction of this is a confirmation of what has been previously stated, which produces fear and leads, by the permission of Allah, to submission and disavowal of any claim of strength or power. For these people had previously been aware of the matter of the Book and what was brought by it; they found it written among them in the Torah and the Gospel. They had hoped for victory through it against their enemies, blessings and peace be upon him, and they sought victory with his Book. May Allah have mercy on whoever did not have knowledge of it like Abu Bakr and Umar and their likes, may Allah be pleased with them all. And He forbade those who had insight into his matter and made them, by their disbelief, the worst of creation. And He was pleased with the others and they were pleased with Him, and He settled them in His proximity and granted them the greatest victory and eternal life, even if they were before his mission, blessings and peace be upon him, in ignorance and blindness. It did not harm them if it had been decreed for them in the past: "Those are the best of creation." This has ended.
