(p-185) Surah Lam Yakun, also called Al-Qiyamah and Al-Munfakkin. Its purpose is to inform that this valuable book, due to its high status and great effects, is like a light and guidance for a people, while for others it brings heaviness and blindness. It leads to Paradise, the abode of the righteous, and drives to Hell, the abode of the wretched and wicked. This is indicated by all of its names, 'those who disbelieved' and 'the Munfakkin', by reflecting on the verse regarding the division of people into the people of misery and the people of happiness. 'In the name of Allah', who has absolute exaltation, nothing escapes His will. 'The Most Merciful', who has encompassed all His servants with the blessing of their creation and guidance. 'The Most Merciful', who has specifically granted the people of His affection with good deeds that ensure the salvation and happiness of those who act upon them. * * When He, glorified and exalted is He, informed that the blessed night, which He protected with a type of concealment in the descent of the one who descends in it and in its specification, remains as it is with that characteristic until the dawn comes, which brings the utmost clarity. He informed that the people of religions, whether they have a foundation of truth or not, do not usually change from what they are in except for a great reason, the explanation of which is greater than the explanation of dawn, which is the Qur'an mentioned in Al-Qadr and the Messenger sent down upon him. This indicates what they were upon before, that they would change from what they were upon of disbelief or faith to disbelief or innovation, then they would not remain steadfast upon it, because that is not in their nature. Likewise, the polytheists would change the religion of Ismail, blessings and peace be upon him, and would not completely separate from it. At times they would worship idols, at times angels, and at other times jinn, and they would not remain steadfast in one condition completely, like their steadfastness in Islam after the coming of the clear proof and their complete forgetting of the matters of ignorance until they forgot about gambling. None of their children would know how it was, nor the sa'ibah and what was with it, and other such superstitions. And when the world was more deserving of following the truth and was more guilty for committing acts that necessitate blame, He began with His saying: ﴿from the People of the Book﴾ meaning from the Jews and Christians whose original religion was indeed true. They distorted it with alteration, distortion, and deviation in the attributes of Allah, glorified and exalted is He. Then Allah, glorified and exalted is He, abrogated it with what He legislated that opposed it in the branches and agreed with it in the roots, so they denied ﴿and the polytheists﴾ meaning by worshipping idols, fire, the sun, and similar things, who are deeply rooted in a religion that has no foundation in the truth in that they [did not] have a book. ﴿separating﴾ meaning disconnecting and departing from what they were upon of their religion, a separation that completely removes them from it such that they have no connection to it, and they remain steadfast upon that separation. The root of separation is opening and detachment when it was intertwined, as in separating a book, a seal, or a bone - when it departs from what was attached and connected to it, or from what is within themselves, from the thought of following the truth when the messenger comes to them, who is the one foretold by what the People of the Book used to seek victory with, and the polytheists swore by Allah with all their oaths ﴿If a warner comes to them, they will surely be more guided than any of the nations﴾ [Fatir: 42]. Thus, they would become by that factions and groups ﴿until﴾ meaning [to] when ﴿it comes to them﴾ He expressed with the present tense to renew the statement at every time with the renewal of the message and recitation. ﴿the clear proof﴾ meaning the verse which is in clarity like the bright dawn that only increases in appearance, light, and illumination with the passage of time. And that is the messenger and what is with him of the signs, the greatest of which is the Book, whether it be the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, or the Criterion.
