Commentary

And when it was most disgraceful for a servant to be turned away from the service of his master, he expressed by saying of servitude, denying the exaggeration in condemning the prohibition and indicating the perfection of servitude: "A servant" meaning from the servants. "When he prays" meaning he serves his master, whom no one can deny his lordship, by performing the prayer, which is his connection with Him. It is the greatest type of worship because, while it is the closest connection to the Truth, it is also a complete severance and detachment from creation. Thus, his prohibition of him from that was a prohibition from fulfilling the right of its people out of envy or tyranny. This indicated that it is the nature of the people of every time to oppose the people of virtue and to turn them away from good so that they do not attain perfection.
