Commentary
And when that was, it was indicated by both of them to the places of their growth, which is the holy land of all the countries of Sham, hinting at those who were there from the prophets and their followers with goodness, especially Ibrahim, blessings and peace be upon him, whose migration was there. Allah, glorified and exalted is He, revived it with His servants, and the angels frequented him with revelation. After him, his children, whom Allah purified from polytheism and illuminated with monotheism, and He concluded them with 'Isa, blessings and peace be upon him, one of the resolute messengers honored by being from the nation of Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon our Prophet. The allusion with the two trees about the town intended its inhabitants is more eloquent than the explicit mention of the intended from the very first hint. He presented it on this noble methodology, and there remained from those who did not inhabit it of their nobles except Musa, Harun, Isma'il, and Muhammad, blessings be upon them. He indicated the first two by saying, expressing what indicates the best of creation, for the mountain is the one with vegetation from the stars and fruitful trees and others: 'And the Mount' meaning the mountain of the place named by this name.
And when the speech was about creation, the appropriate form for it was the plural of soundness. So Allah, glorified and exalted is He, said: 'Sinai,' meaning what was at the mountain of the good vegetation in which Allah spoke to Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, from the delightful conversation and the wonders of the appointment and the wisdom of the words. Although in it are trees and places that may be of heat and cold, and in it, for its emptiness, beauty, and height, is a gathering of thoughts for the solitary and tranquility of the soul for seclusion for worship and protection from what is feared for its height and difficulty. In it is what is suitable for cultivation without hardship, and in it is what people and animals eat with fresh water, spaciousness, and beautiful scenery. 'Sinai' is a name for the place where this mountain is. And He, glorified and exalted is He, referred to the last two of the children of Ibrahim, blessings and peace be upon him, concluding the oath with the most complete of that which is sworn by, just as He made the revelation upon him that which is the conclusion of the messengers, the most complete of the type sworn by, so that it may begin with what comes after the goodness of creation to corruption, and conclude with what is the most honorable of those mentioned in every respect of contrast that has the highest secrets.
