Commentary
And when he mentioned these noble merits which are perfection, and perfection does not become pure except with the assistance of the decrees, then indeed, when the aspirations become great, their fields expand. If there is a disruption in them, there will be distress according to its measure. He clarified that he removed the obstacles from him in a statement indicating that the reason for the granting of these perfections is what he ﷺ had in patience upon the decrees and the bitter experiences of the decrees. He said, confirming and encouraging to bear such a thing, hoping for a reward that befits these high ranks, emphasizing the encouragement to endure it by mentioning companionship, indicating the closeness of the two times, such that they were like two inseparable companions, causing what has been previously mentioned of his state in the forenoon: "For indeed," meaning, "He, glorified is He, acted with you these great perfections because He decreed in eternity a decree that cannot be reversed or followed by anything of it, that 'with hardship' means this type specifically 'there is ease,' meaning a great ease that brings about benefits and clarifies what was constrained by the intellects. For indeed, the people of affliction have always been waiting for relief, knowing from their original nature which people were created upon that He is the unique one in perfection, and that He is the doer by choice to endow the beings with their opposites. And He has established His ancient tradition, glorified and exalted is He, that relief accompanies hardship. So when he ﷺ endured what was mentioned in the forenoon of the severe orphanhood and the misguidance of his people, especially all those whom Allah, exalted is He, inspired him to oppose in the essence of the religion by avoiding idols, and in its branches by standing with the people in pilgrimage at the place of Ibrahim, blessings and peace be upon him. And from the affliction that no one bore until it was such that He, glorified and exalted is He, would bestow upon him salvation from it in His ancient book and His wise mention. And while enduring that, he remained with what is due to him of patience and ascended to the heights of gratitude. 'He carries' - as the great truthful one Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her, said - 'the burden, and hosts the guest, and maintains the ties of kinship, and assists in the matters of truth.' Then he bore the burdens of prophethood, and he would encounter from his people the harm, distress, and affliction that no one else bore. Allah, exalted is He, gave him the glad tidings that He would ease for him all of that and soften their hearts so that his religion would prevail over all other religions, and would enrich his companions, may Allah be pleased with them, after their poverty, and would increase them after their scarcity, and would honor them after their humiliation. And these opposers to him would become the greatest supporters, and the opposers would submit to him in the most complete submission, and He would open for him most of the lands, so that this grant in ease would be according to what had occurred from hardship. For indeed, He, glorified and exalted is He, decreed a decree that does not revert, that He alternates between the conditions, a decisive evidence that He, exalted is He, alone is the doer, and that His action is by choice, not by necessity and compulsion.
