Commentary

And when He honored him within Himself with the comprehensive perfection of majesty unto majesty, and that could only be pure with honor among people, He said: ﴿And We raised﴾ meaning by what We have of greatness and dazzling power ﴿you﴾ meaning a specific elevation that diminishes the elevation of others among all of creation ﴿your mention﴾ among all the wise and others in truth, trustworthiness, forbearance, composure, noble morals, purity of character, and the absence of blemishes of deficiency until your fame among your people before prophethood was only the Trustworthy, and they would cite your pure traits and your radiant, brilliant descriptions as examples. Then with prophethood, then with messengership, then with migration, and that We made your name coupled with Our name in the word of monotheism, faith, the call to prayer, the establishment of prayer, the testimony, and the sermon, so I am not mentioned except that you are mentioned with me. And among the honor is the victory over your enemies and the honor for your allies, and your pleasure is my pleasure and your obedience is my obedience, and the command of My angels to pray upon you, and My addressing you with the lofty titles and the exalted attributes of the Messenger and the Prophet, and so on according to the styles and the appropriateness of the structures, and other than that from the virtues, merits, and characteristics that cannot be captured by description. Al-Razi said: Then He made for His nation from that the greatest share. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, who are the allies of Allah? He said: 'Those who, when they are mentioned, Allah is mentioned.' And in the hadith: 'Those who, when they are seen, Allah is mentioned.' And he said: 'The best of you are those who remember Allah upon seeing them, and whose speech increases your knowledge, and whose actions make you renounce the world.' So the culmination of the division of praise is that He mixed His mention with His mention.
