And when he denied that he intended by that a reward, he said, clarifying his intention with an exception that is disconnected: "Except" meaning but he intended by that "seeking" meaning requesting and intending. He directed the saying to the attribute of benevolence, indicating his description with gratitude, saying: "The face of his Lord" (p-96) who created him, raised him, and did good to him, such that he saw no good except from Him, and he has nothing except that it is from His grace. "The Most High" meaning absolutely, for He is higher than everything, so it is not possible for anyone to give anything from himself that would be a reward for Him. He expressed the disconnected by the tool of the connected to indicate that the mentioned seeking is as if it is a blessing from the one who granted him wealth, for seeking - which is the pursuit of Allah's pleasure - was the reason for that giving with the utmost encouragement. The matter has come with this elegant expression and the indication [of encouragement] and has given him from the affection to the extent that the meaning is: [Indeed] there is no blindness upon anyone in that except Allah. He expressed with the face indicating that his intention is the highest of intentions, for he looked only to His essence, glorified and exalted is He, which he expressed by the face because it is the noblest of essences. By looking to Him, life, desire, and awe are attained, not to the seeking of anything from this world or the Hereafter.
