And when the people of the world find themselves in a predicament, they free themselves from it with their wealth. He said: "And what will avail" meaning in that situation, "him" meaning this one who was miserly and lied, "his wealth" meaning that which he was miserly with in hope of benefiting from it. It may be that this is an interrogative negation, thus it would be denying the availing in the most eloquent manner.
