Commentary
And when the context is for intimidation by what is indicated by the Surah of Al-Balad and the introduction of the wickedness here, and since intimidation is more compelling towards purification, he said, indicating the failure of the one who conceals so that those who hear his news may take heed, especially if his trace is known: ﴿Thamud denied﴾. He feminized their action due to the weakness of the effect of their denial, for every listener to it knows their injustice in it due to the clarity of their signs and the ugliness of their end. And what do they have with the lowliness of aspirations and the baseness of traits? He specified them because their sign, although it was among the clearest signs in itself, is the most indicative of the Hour. And Quraysh and the rest of the Arabs are aware of them due to what they see of their traces and what they transmit of their news. ﴿By their transgression﴾ means that it led to the denial of their messenger in all that he brought from Allah, the Exalted, because of what was in their souls of the description of transgression, which is exceeding the limit, rising above it, and being excessive in disbelief and iniquity. Or by what they threatened with of the immediate punishment, which is the transgression by which they were destroyed. And 'taga' - with a waw and ya - is said: 'taga' like 'da'a' 'yatghu' 'taghwan' and 'tughyan' - with its damma like 'tughwa' 'yutghu'. And 'taghiyah' like 'radiyah' 'taghyan' and 'tughyan' - with the kasra and damma. So 'tughyan' - with the fatha is a noun, and with the damma is a source. The ya was turned into a waw to differentiate between the noun and the adjective, and the expression was chosen with it over the ya due to the strength of the waw. So understand that they reached the limit in their denial, and they were at the utmost of their severe punishment.
