Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, decreed for him what arises from the desires for obtaining beauty and rejecting ugliness, he followed what arises from the desires for command and prohibition and the types of perfect perfections. So He said: "And a tongue," meaning it translates what is in his inner self. "And two lips," meaning they cover the mouth and assist him in eating and drinking and in speaking with eloquence and rhetoric to a known extent that none other can reach. Thus, his affairs come together and he reaches numerous objectives and significant matters. He did not mention hearing because speech necessitates it. The meaning is: Are we not capable, by the ability which We have given him, of making for others like what We have made for him and more, so that he may resist and overcome?
