Commentary
And when the meaning of this is that they are in the side that contains misfortune and destruction, and far from all blessing, he produced his saying: ﴿Upon them﴾ meaning specifically without others ﴿is a sealed fire﴾ meaning the door is closed with it surrounded by them from all sides - by what the tool of elevation has conveyed, and with tightness and difficulty. This, by my life, is the greatest tightness and hardship, and toil and distress. The refuge from it is to Allah, the One, the Eternal. And it is known that its beginning is this other one. So the dripping in it is what hands are held tightly to and fingers are clasped upon - and Allah, the Exalted, is the One hoped for guidance to the best of the inner secrets, and He is the guide to what is correct, and to Him is the return and the abode.
