Commentary
And when the ultimate joy is laughter, and what is necessary for them in the Hereafter is weeping in the abode of misery, which is the ultimate sorrow for them, in it is gasping and panting, and they are crying out in it, Allah, the Most High, said, warning them and indicating the ugliness of what has been mentioned of their actions, informing them in the form of a command, signaling that it is a matter that must occur: 'So let them laugh a little.' That is, let them enjoy in this abode with their joy, the enjoyment which the ultimate joy of it is laughter - a little. For indeed, it is a place of destruction, removal, disturbance, and departure. 'And let them weep much.' That is, in the fire of Hell, which they neglected to remember its heat and disregarded to protect themselves from its severe blaze, instead of that little laughter, just as they exchanged its great heat for the heat of the insignificant sun. 'As a reward for what they used to earn.' That is, from the joy in sins and the happiness in desires and the immersion in pleasures.
