Commentary
And when it became clear with these matters their enmity towards the believers and their departure from the bond of the religion that corrects their description of wickedness, it clarified another confusion from their conditions which they establish with false oaths. So he said: ﴿And they swear﴾ meaning: they sought for you the trial while they are renewing the oaths ﴿by Allah﴾ meaning: upon what He has of complete greatness. ﴿Indeed, they﴾ meaning: the hypocrites ﴿are of you﴾ meaning: O believers, in their belief inwardly as they are outwardly. ﴿And what﴾ (p-502) meaning: while they are not ﴿they﴾ truthful in their swearing that they are ﴿of you, but they are a people﴾ meaning: although they have strength and persistence in what they attempt. ﴿They fear﴾ meaning: they fear for their blood from you with a great fear that divides their concerns, so it is what compels them to swear falsely while pretending to be Muslims.
