And when he ﷺ missed their knowledge of this path, the scholar began to describe them to him based on what was in their hearts, compensating for that. He said in response to the question: ﴿They do not seek your permission﴾ meaning: they do not request your permission with the utmost desire for it. ﴿Those who believe in Allah﴾ meaning: they renew their faith at all times truly from themselves in the King who has the attributes of perfection. ﴿And the Last Day﴾ meaning: the day in which there will be recompense with reward and punishment. ﴿That they﴾ meaning: in that ﴿strive with their wealth and their selves﴾ rather they hasten to strive at your indication towards it and your general sending, let alone seeking your permission to refrain from it. For the elite among the emigrants and the supporters used to say: We will never seek his ﷺ permission in striving; for our Lord has called us to it repeatedly, so what benefit is there in seeking permission! And we will certainly strive with him with our wealth and our selves. They were such that if he ﷺ commanded them to remain behind, it would be difficult for them, as happened with Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, in the Battle of Tabuk until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'Are you not pleased to be to me as Aaron was to Moses!' And when the decree was: So whoever is characterized by that, know that he is pious with the news of Allah, he added to it (p-489) his saying: ﴿And Allah﴾ meaning: the One who has complete encompassing knowledge ﴿is Knowing of the pious﴾ meaning: those who fear Allah, all of them.
