And when the souls are differing in their aspirations and contrasting in their natures and characteristics, this is not enough for threatening all of them. So He followed it with a more severe threat regarding those souls, saying, transitioning from the style of encouragement to the station of turning away, which indicates the warnings of anger: "Say". That is: O greatest of creation, in compassion, kindness, and advice for those who do not claim what has preceded from the warnings that it is necessary to endure all these harms in this world in order for the religion to remain intact and not be compromised. "If your fathers". That is: those whom you honor the most. "And your sons". That is: those who are the dearest people to you and the most beloved to you. "And your brothers". That is: those who are from your roots, for they are like your own selves. "And your wives". That is: those who are a source of comfort for you. "And your tribe". That is: which brings about complete comfort and establishes dignity and protection, and they are the closest people to a person who live with him.

And when He, glorified and exalted is He, presented what is prioritized over wealth among those of high aspirations, He said: "And wealth that you have acquired". That is: you have earned it through effort from travels and other means for your livelihood. "And trade that you fear may decline". That is: due to the loss of the times of its profits because of your engagement in what Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has commanded you to do, which may cause you to miss what you think is your sustenance. "And dwellings that you are pleased with". That is: because they are a gathering for all of that. And indeed, He, glorified and exalted is He, has arranged them in the best order. For the father is the most beloved of those mentioned here due to the aspect of support, and after him is the son, then the brother, then the wife, then the tribe that includes both males and females, then the wealth that is in hand, then the expected profit from trade. And He concluded with the dwelling because it is the ultimate goal for which all that has preceded are means for comfort in it and adornment with it. "Is more beloved to you than Allah". That is: the one who encompasses all attributes of perfection, who has bestowed upon you all that has been mentioned, and whenever He wills, He can take it away from you. "And His Messenger". That is: the one who has brought you what preserves these blessings in both abodes. "And striving in His cause". That is: to bring back those who have strayed from His servants to Him and to gather them to Him. And in His saying: "So wait". That is: be patient, waiting - a severe threat. "Until Allah comes". That is: the One who has complete knowledge of everything. "With His command". That is: which your descriptions cannot reach and your powers cannot bear.

And when one prefers the love of something from that to the love of Him, glorified and exalted is He, he is straying from his religion, returning to the religion of what he preferred. And the estimation is: a calamity will befall you that you cannot endure, nor can you find a way to repel it with any kind of ornament; because you have chosen for yourselves to reject guidance. It is known that whoever is like this is marked by sinfulness. He then adds to it His saying: 'And Allah' meaning: the One who encompasses the attributes of perfection 'does not guide the people' meaning: He does not create guidance in the hearts of 'the sinful' meaning: those who have exerted what they have of the strength to act in what they desire of corruption until sinfulness, which is to deviate from what is rightfully meant to be adhered to and followed, which here is obedience, becomes a characteristic of their morals and a necessity of theirs. Rather, He leaves them to their own souls, so they lose both this world and the Hereafter.
