And when He clarified what necessitated their distance from them and their enmity towards them, He explained what they would become worthy of. He said: ﴿So if they repent﴾ meaning: by believing due to what you have shown them of harshness ﴿and establish﴾ meaning: they support that by establishing ﴿the prayer﴾ meaning: with all of its limits ﴿and give the zakah﴾ meaning: as prescribed by the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him ﴿then they are your brothers﴾ meaning: they are, and He clarified that it is not the brotherhood of lineage. He said: ﴿in religion﴾ they have what you have and upon them is what is upon you, so do not expose them to what they dislike.

And when it was as if it was said as a call and encouragement to reflect on what has been detailed: We have detailed for you (p-391) their matter in these verses in detail, He added to it His saying: ﴿And We detail﴾ meaning: in every matter they need all of the ﴿verses﴾ and He magnified these verses and urged them to contemplate them by His saying: ﴿for a people who know﴾ meaning: knowledge has become a characteristic for them, so they have a faculty by which they act in its principles and branches. They are not deceived by mere words that are characterized by poor quality and contradiction between saying and action. The objection to this between these interconnected phrases is an indication of the greatness of the matter that He alerted to, and an encouragement to reflect deeply on it to know that its content is of great significance; lest it be thought that it is a repetition.
