And when He commanded him to purify them by that which would return them to what they were upon before the sin, He turned to His saying ﴿Take﴾ [At-Tawbah: 103] His saying as a warning to them from what they fell into: ﴿And say, Work﴾ meaning after your purification ﴿So Allah will see﴾ meaning the One who has complete knowledge ﴿Your deeds﴾ meaning by which He has complete knowledge and ability, so work the work of one who knows that he is in the sight of Allah ﴿and His Messenger﴾ meaning: by Allah informing him. And when this section is for the believers, their deeds are hidden within it, He said: ﴿And the believers﴾ so beautify your deeds as much as you can and be sincere, and in the hadith: "If a man were to work in a rock that has no door, Allah would manifest his deed to the people, whatever it may be."

And when this context is for the believers, the word 'then' was omitted from it, but when it was for the sinners, it was emphasized with 'saw' so He said: ﴿And you will be returned﴾ meaning: by a promise that there is no breaking of it ﴿to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed﴾ meaning: after death and resurrection ﴿So He will inform you﴾ meaning: with His knowledge of everything ﴿of what you used to do﴾ meaning: what you manifested of deeds and what was in your instincts. So if you had delayed, you would have purified yourselves, He would reward you for a good deed and increase from His grace, and for a bad deed, He would be just if He wills, and He does not wrong an atom's weight.
