Commentary

And when he knew that this mentioned reward is only for the greedy, anxious, disturbed soul that is reckless in times of ease and hardship, which does not honor the orphan nor the poor and loves this world, and it was known that among the people there are those who are not like that, the soul yearned for its reward. So the saying of this yearning was fulfilled by his words, informing that it will be said to their souls at the blowing of the trumpet and the scattering of what is in the graves for resurrection and revival: "O tranquil soul," meaning the one that is in the utmost peace, with no fear upon it nor sadness nor deficiency nor loss, because it was in this world in the utmost steadfastness on all that it was informed about concerning the Hereafter and other promises, threats, warnings, and intimidation. They are hopeful for His promise and fearful of His warning. And if this is the state of the soul that tends towards this world, what do you think of the spirit which is of better disposition?
