Commentary
And when Hell does not come by itself, for if it were to come by itself, perhaps it would be thought that it is outside of power. Rather, the angels lead it. So whenever they handle it, going and returning, the people experience from that horror what only Allah, glorified and exalted is He, knows. The horror itself of bringing it is not the identification of the doers. Therefore, the saying is built for the acted upon: "And it is brought". That is, in the easiest manner, "on that Day". That is, when what was mentioned occurs, "with Hell". That is, the fire that scowls at those who enter it. It has been narrated that "it will be brought with seventy thousand ropes, with each rope seventy thousand angels." This is like His saying, glorified and exalted is He: "And the Hellfire will be displayed for those who see" [An-Nazi'at: 36]. And He replaced "if" with a clarification for the length of the interval and to emphasize His saying: "on that Day". That is, when these matters occur, and a person sees what has been prepared for the grateful and what has been prepared for the disbelievers.
And when He presented these magnificent matters and terrifying warnings, showing concern for them, and indicating that they, due to their great admonition, are worthy of every listener to take heed, He mentioned the doer in their context and changed it, saying: "The human will remember". That is, in the manner of renewal and continuity, he will remember everything that benefits him in this world and what harms him. He will know that his love for this world has brought him nothing but loss. His love for it has not increased anything that was not written for him, nor has it decreased anything due to its humiliation, as it was written for him or given to him. And when he remembers that, it becomes easy for him to give up. And that abode is not the abode of action. Therefore, He said: "And how". That is, how and from what aspect "is there for him the reminder". That is, the benefit of the great reminder, for it is in the wrong place. It does not benefit him at all in any way due to the loss of the abode of action, and it results in nothing but regret and an increase in sorrow, worry, and pain.
