Commentary

(p-36) And when it indicated love for the world by an external matter, it indicated it by a matter within the human being. So He, the Most High, said: ﴿And you eat﴾, meaning in a manner of renewal and continuity. ﴿the inheritance﴾, meaning the legacy, its origin is inheritance, the waw was replaced with a ta. [And] as if he expressed it by this as an indication of taking the apparent, which the waw refers to, and the investigation of the hidden, which is indicated by the exit of the ta. Investigating it might lead to taking some of the wealth of others: ﴿eating up﴾, meaning that which is gathered, meaning a mixture and blending between the lawful and the unlawful. For they used to not give inheritance to women and children [and] they would eat what the inheritor had gathered, even if they knew it was unlawful, and they would say: No one deserves the wealth except the one who fights and protects the territory.
