Commentary
And when a person is not prevented from urging what has deceived him towards good except by the love of this world, if the one being urged is greater than him, he will reserve it for his own needs. And if he is of equal status, he fears that he will compete with him in that, so he urges him towards another poor person. And the act of kindness by urging to give is greater than giving itself, because it necessitates giving, unlike the opposite. He said: "And do not urge one another," meaning they urge with great urging for their own people and not for others, "towards the food of the poor," meaning to give it to him generously and bountifully. Thus, his addition to it indicates that he is a partner with the rich in his wealth to the extent of the zakah.
