As for him, when he confirmed the pattern of the first, he said: "His Lord did not test him". This means to show his patience or his despair. When his saying in the first part "So He honored him and blessed him" is a metaphor for "So He expanded for him", he countered it here with his saying: "So He restricted". This means the narrowness of the one who acts with calculation and estimation regarding his provision. It is a metaphor for tightness, just as giving without calculation is a metaphor for abundance. He made it according to the measure of his necessity, which he cannot live without, and He did not give him any excess beyond that. He did not say: "So He humiliated him" in the context of "restriction upon him" as a lesson in etiquette with Him, glorified and exalted is He, and to protect the people of Allah from this expression, because most of them are restricted in their worldly affairs. And because the abandonment of honoring does not solely mean humiliation. So the person says (due to the tightness): "My Lord, the One who nurtures me, has humiliated me," and he becomes concerned about that and is greatly troubled by it, and this becomes his greatest worry.
