Commentary

(p-21) The purpose of Surah Al-Fajr is to provide evidence of the final Day of Resurrection and the reckoning. The clearest indication of this purpose is the dawn, which bursts forth from the night of yesterday without any difference in essence, and the awakening of the sleepers from the lesser death, which is sleep, as it occurs in the light of day for the pursuit of sustenance, for the recompense in the reckoning with reward and punishment. 'In the name of Allah,' the One who gathers the servants after their being torn apart by what He possesses of greatness. 'The Most Gracious,' who encompassed them after the generality of existence with the clear statement that prepares whom He wills for faith. 'The Most Merciful,' who has specifically favored His allies with the pleasure that permits them to enter Paradise. * * When it concluded with the fact that there must be a return and reckoning, and the changing of night and day and the renewal of each after their annihilation indicates the ability to resurrect. And since Allah has made pilgrimage in His legislation in a manner that requires detachment from sewing and adherence to the declaration of 'Here I am' and proceeding to the designated places, it serves as a reminder of that. He said: 'By the dawn,' meaning the complete dawn in this description due to its greatness, to the extent that there seems to be no dawn other than it. It is the dawn of the Day of Sacrifice, which is the first of the days that begin the return to (p-22) the Sacred House of Allah by entering its sanctuary and being released from its prohibitions and eating its hospitality.
