And when the lowering cannot occur except by a dominant lower, just as the raising is likewise, Allah, the Most High, said: "And to the earth" meaning with its vastness "how it has been spread out" meaning the spreading of it has occurred by the one who spread it until it became a bed laid out upon which one walks with utmost ease. The ability to make it thus, with what it contains of beauty by the lushness of plants and other variations, is indicative of action by choice. And it is not without the ability to spread carpets in Paradise with differing shapes, forms, and colors.
