And when the matter became overwhelming due to its enormity and generality, he increased the gravity by mentioning the states of it in detailing the people into wretched and happy. He began with the wretched because the purpose is to warn those who prefer the worldly life. He justified beginning with the indefinite by the detail, saying: ﴿Faces﴾ meaning very many existing ﴿that day﴾ [meaning] when it overwhelms the people ﴿humble﴾ meaning submissive, filled with shame and disgrace, fear, and regret that will not benefit at such a time.
