Commentary
And when He mentioned the high among the creatures of the living beings for humans and the high among the worlds, He followed it with the highest of the earth and said, 'And to the mountains,' meaning the towering ones, which are the most solid of the earth. 'How were they set up?' This means that their establishment was by one who set them up very high above the rest of the earth without any cause in it for that, neither from nature nor otherwise, but by the action of the chosen doer. Thus, they are firmly established and do not tilt. He placed them in such a way that they contain benefits from flowing waters and various trees, more astonishing than the arrangement of cups and adorned cushions. With this, the earth was stabilized and preserved from shaking. The matter of the stars was also balanced in the calculation of night and day, with the balance of the lands being facilitated by the elevation of some over others, so that the rising and setting points were in a consistent arrangement and a precise system that is not disrupted, by which times, seasons, years, days, and months are measured, and so forth. And this cannot be for it except by a dominant, capable, and chosen one who has no partner.
