'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful'
The Surah of Al-Ghashiyah is intended to explain what is in the end of "Subbih" regarding the glorification of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, from any triviality by affirming the Hereafter, which Al-Ghashiyah is its beginning. It mentions what is in it for the righteous and the wretched, and it indicates His power over it. The clearest evidence of this intention is Al-Ghashiyah - we seek refuge with Allah from the heart that is veiled and the insight that is veiled, so that Al-Ghashiyah does not come upon us due to evil deeds. 'In the name of Allah' who has the utmost greatness and the brilliant wisdom, 'the Most Gracious' who has the highest bounty and the apparent blessings, 'the Most Merciful' who has chosen His allies and has rectified the inner aspects of His blessings until they became pure and apparent.
* *When "Subbih" was concluded with the encouragement to purify the souls from the filth of this world, and He urged that with the goodness of the Hereafter at one time and the emulation of the resolute among the prophets at another, the beginning of this was fearful of turning away from that at one time, and of purifying oneself without the methodology of the messengers at another. So He, glorified and exalted is He, said, reminding of the Hereafter which He urged at the end.
This is affirming for the noblest of His creation, blessings and peace be upon him, for that is greater in the estimation of following him and more effective in stirring the souls to receive the news with acceptance: "Has the story of Al-Ghashiyah come to you?" meaning it has come to you and has confronted you clearly, O greatest of our creation. "The story of Al-Ghashiyah" meaning the Day of Resurrection, which overwhelms people with its calamities and its greatest hardships and prohibitions, for the overwhelming only occurs in what is disliked.
And Imam Abu Ja'far ibn Al-Zubayr said: When His glorification, glorified is He, from what the wrongdoers imagined was established, and the Surah continued to clarify the sanctity of the Creator, exalted is His majesty, from their great sayings, He followed that with the mention of Al-Ghashiyah after the opening of the Surah with a question form, magnifying its matter. He said to His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him: "Has the story of Al-Ghashiyah come to you?" and it is the Resurrection. [As if] He, glorified and exalted is He, is saying: On that day they will witness their recompense and their regret will intensify when nothing will avail them. Then He made known the greatness of their trial in His saying: "They will have no food except from Dhari" [Al-Ghashiyah: 6] along with what follows and precedes it. Then He made known by mentioning the state of those who were in contrast to their state, for that is more in joy and more severe. Then He followed with the mention of what He established of the signs and how it did not avail, saying: "Do they not look at the camels, how they are created?" [Al-Ghashiyah: 17] - the verses, meaning do they not reflect upon all of that and derive evidence from the creation regarding the Creator? Then He commanded him to remember - it has ended.
