And the Hereafter, while the abode that is the ultimate goal of creation and the intended purpose, is the lofty one, free from frivolity, and exalted above deviating from wisdom. It is better than the world, considering the submission, for in it is goodness, as its bliss is pure, with no distress in it whatsoever. And it is everlasting, meaning it is more enduring than what is considered impossible in the world, as its continuation until the time of its end is called permanence. The bliss of the Hereafter is eternal, with no interruption at all. What is lasting cannot be compared to what is sufficient in any way. So whoever knows this, which is something that is not unknown, engages in what attains the Hereafter and negates the world in both its physical realities and its desires, from the follies of the soul and the imagined pleasures. The verse from the interconnection: mentioning preference and proximity first indicates abandonment and elevation secondly. And mentioning goodness and permanence secondly indicates their opposites first. The secret of this is that only a lowly person prefers the lowly, so it was mentioned first because it is more severe in repulsion. And goodness and permanence were mentioned second because they are more severe in encouragement.
