And when the steadfastness of this on this face necessitated and there must be their return from obstinacy, that was a motivator for the listener to learn what was of their affair. He began his saying as a sign of their remaining in denial and confirmed it as a warning that their persistence in obstinacy is very unlikely. "Indeed, they" meaning the disbelievers "are plotting" meaning by what they do regarding him from the schemes "a plot" to nullify it and extinguish its light by affirming you, or expelling you, or killing you, or turning the people away from you, while the fact is that they have no strength at all for that nor any supporter in any way. And his recompense for them, glorified and exalted is He, was called a plot as a similarity, and because it is hidden from them and disliked by them, it is in the form of a plot. So he said:
