Commentary

And when these sentences encompassed the highest peak of eloquence in proving resurrection, recompense, and His Oneness, glorified and exalted is He, and other than that from the oceans of knowledge, it was established that the Qur'an is the speech of Allah, glorified and exalted is He. It was established that everything in it is true, despite their dispute over all of it. The situation necessitated swearing by its reality, so He said: ﴿By the heaven﴾, meaning the one by which the oath was taken, and He described it with that which confirms knowledge of the cycle that is the source of knowledge and piety, upon which happiness revolves. He said: ﴿of return﴾, which returns by rotation to the place from which it began to rotate. Thus, the states that were and have passed from night and day, the sun, the moon, and the stars, and the seasons of winter with its cold and rain, and summer with its heat, clarity, stillness, and other than that, and the vegetation after its withering and its becoming dust mixed with the dust of the earth, and the water returns according to the saying of those who say: Indeed, the clouds take it from the sea and rise with it, then squeeze it in the air, then return it to the earth - and other than that from the matters, each of which indicates that the doer of that is capable of restoring everything that has perished as it was without any difference at all.
