Commentary
And when the decree was: Yes, that has come to me, and I knew from the news of the two of them and others that You are capable of what You want. However, the disbelievers do not believe me. He then turned to his saying: "Rather, those who disbelieved"; meaning, those who openly declared disbelief among these people and others, even if they were in the lowest rank. "In denial"; meaning, when they saw the signs, they had no basis in it, and it is severe and surrounding them due to their following their desires and imitating their forefathers. They are unable to escape from that denial which has become a condition for them after hearing the news of those who were destroyed and seeing some of their traces. And after I established for them the evidence of resurrection in this miraculous Qur'an, they did not take any of that into account due to the disease of envy that they have. Their condition is more astonishing than their state, so he warned them of a similar outcome to theirs.
