And when there is no one who rewards and punishes in this manner except one who is of the utmost greatness, he said, justifying his action and indicating by this justification what he has of greatness, which thoughts fall short of comprehending, confirming what the enemies have of denial: "Indeed, the grip of your Lord" means the taking of the one who is kind to you, the one who manages your affairs, against the enemies of the religion with violence, force, and the utmost severity. "Is severe" means a severity that exceeds the violence found in the grip that is conditional in its naming; it is an intensified violence.
