Commentary
And when this was, it may have misled that it was without His command, glorified and exalted is He. And He said: "And it was permitted for its Lord," meaning it did that by the permission of the Creator for it, and the Nurturer. It was affected in that by His influence, not by itself. And it did all of it with the action of the All-Hearing, the Responsive. "And it was justified," meaning it was truly so, just as every nurtured being is likewise. The repetition of "if" is for the indication of what is in each of the two sentences of great power. And the answer is omitted, for it is in the utmost clarity by what the situation indicates, along with what has preceded from the defrauders and what came before it from the surahs and what will come in this surah. Its estimation is: surely every person will be held accountable for all of their toil. So let the disbelievers be rewarded for what they used to do, and let the people of Islam be recompensed for what they used to do.
And Imam Abu Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr said: As for what has preceded in Al-Infitar, the introduction to the guardians and their counting of the servants in their records has returned to mention what is written for the righteous and the wicked, and the establishment of that in His saying: "Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyyin" [Al-Mutaffifin: 18]. And His saying: "Indeed, the record of the wicked is in Sijjin" [Al-Mutaffifin: 7]. He followed that by mentioning the introduction to the taking of these records on the Day of Resurrection at the presentation, and that taking them by the right hand is the title of happiness, and taking them from behind the back is the title of misery. For it has preceded in the two surahs before the mention of the records and their establishment according to the differences of their contents. Some of them are in 'Illiyyin and some of them are in Sijjin until the Day of Presentation. Every record will be brought forth, and one will take it by their right hand, which is the title of their happiness, and one will take it from behind their back, which is the title of their destruction. Thus, the news of these records is established, both at the beginning and in permanence and distinction on the Day of Presentation. The surah was opened with the mention of the splitting of the sky and the spreading of the earth and its casting forth what is in it, and its adornment, introducing this great day by what is remembered by whom has preceded in their happiness. And the correspondence is clear - it has ended.
