Commentary
And when he informed about them with this humiliation, and he had expressed about them with the lowest ranks, indicating that among them are those who accept faith, he excluded them by saying: "Except for those who have believed," meaning they acknowledged faith, "and did righteous deeds," indicating the sincerity of their faith.
And when it was established that whoever is held accountable is punished, and that the one who is saved will only have their account presented, he knew that actions do not truly have a role in the reward, but rather the matter is as the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, said, based on being enveloped in mercy, even in naming the bliss as a reward. He omitted the conjunction indicating causation to draw attention to that, unlike what is in Surah At-Tin due to the necessity of its context for the conjunction. He said: "For them is a great reward," meaning a significant and abundant reward known to Allah, the Exalted, which is the overlooking of their minor sins and concealing them. "Non-restricted," meaning not cut off or diminished, nor does He bestow it upon them in this world and the Hereafter. They will be given that on the Day of Judgment, the day when the sky will be split and the earth will be extended, and the disbelievers will return to what they used to do. Thus, the end of it returns to its beginning, and its joints are truly connected by its means.
